In groups of four, one of us began to tell a story about how we became who
we are - until another member of our group interrupted to say “That reminds
me of…”
We read through Abuela’s Greatest Gift by Janel Martinez (from the
collection of Latinx Writers Wild Tongues Can’t Be Tamed), and then went out
for a walk in pairs to discuss the gifts we have received from our ancestors.
We made lists of those gifts, and then returning inside, we worked in small
groups to combine our lists into collage poem performances.
